"The California Cadet Corps (CACC) was a defining influence in my life. It was during my time in the CACC that I discovered a passion for teaching and realized that serving as a part-time soldier might be enjoyable. After graduating in 1961, I returned to my high school as Commandant in 1962 while pursuing my BA and teaching credential in Social Science. I joined the California Army National Guard as a Recruit E-1 two days before graduating from high school. Three years later I completed OCS. My Guard service was a wonderful journey—culminating in 1984 in a 179-day active-duty assignment in Washington, D.C. The 179 days turned into 10 years of active duty. I met my wife while in Washington. I retired from the Guard in 1995 as a Colonel, O-6 and worked for defense contractors until 2021. Every step of that journey began with the CACC and would not have happened without the CACC. I’m proud to make a legacy gift to support future high school-level California Cadet Corps members."
